Guinea’s AFCON Dreams Could Already Be Over After Injured Keita Still Struggling

Liverpool's injured Naby Keita named in Guinea's provisional squad

Even before the beginning of the African Cup of Nations to be held in Egypt in 2019, it looks like things are not working out for Guinea.

According to reports, the Liverpool midfielder Naby Keita has been included in Guinea’s provisional Africa Cup of Nations squad as he continues his recovery from a thigh issue.

The 25-year-old player injured his adductor muscle in the first leg of the Champions League semi-final against Barcelona at the start of May.

Klopp had initially said Keita would be out for two months. But, Guinea’s coach Paul Put had other plans. He said they would seek a second medical opinion on Keita’s injury.

This week, however, Jürgen Klopp has revealed the former RB Leipzig is making good progress in his rehabilitation from a thigh injury. This gave Guinea a boost and upped their hopes of taking him to Egypt.
