County governments depend on the allocations from the national budget for them to efficiently run their services as per the devolution. They ave over a long period of time complained of underfunding by the national government.
The various counties have brought development closer to the people and this is a celebrated act by many, depending on the funding by the national government, but do you think the 10% allocation will be enough for the development?
Several units are devolved among them the health sector and Early Childhood Education. Devolution has eased service delivery to the ground and much is being realized across the units. The counties need support and not cutting down the numbers.
Wangamati has also protested the new bid to slash Counties by half as per the new proposal. A new proposal seeks to slash number of Counties to about 22.
According to Wangamati, It is very difficult at this stage after devolution, after setting up the 47 counties then “we go back telling people that we now have to merge these counties.”
