They say in politics, there are no permanent enemies or friends, just permanent interests.. In 2007, opposition leader Raila Odinga together with other Pentagon members ganged up together against former President Mwai Kibaki in what was termed as 40 against 1 tribe.

The same according to political analyst Mutahi Ngunyi might replicate itself in 2022 only if the Mt. Kenya region betrays both Raila and Ruto. The leaders, who have vowed to stop Ruto from succeeding Uhuru, fear there is still room for the DP and Raila working together in a strong political vehicle like the 2007 Pentagon team.

Raila lost to President Mwai Kibaki in the bitterly disputed election that led to post-election violence in which more than 1,300 people killed and thousands displaced.

“If Uhuru can work with Raila then I can not rule out Raila and Ruto working together in the coming elections. I have once worked with them in the Pentagon and they know each other well,” former Cooperatives minister Joseph Nyagah said recently

Heading into a possible 2022 match-up, those characterizing the on-going shadow dancing/boxing between William Ruto and Raila Odinga and their respective bases as intractable and intransigent should consider the words of both Viscount Palmerston and of a founding member of the Congressional Black Caucus (CBC), Missourian legislator William L. Clay

“Raila and Ruto know each other well and I ask them to tone down to focus on what is good for the nation – good governance, equality and stability,” Nyagah said.

The allies warn that the current verbal exchange between Ruto and Raila cannot stop the two vibrant politicians from working together in the 2022 polls against a prominent candidate.

“I’m reluctant to say Raila and Ruto cannot work together. However, this depends on mutual respect and common interest,” nominated Senator Rose Nyamunga said.

The ODM leader has had meetings with close members of the first family including Uhuru’s mother Mama Ngina, his influential uncle George Muhoho and sister Anne Nyokabi.

Both Raila and Ruto are now banking on Uhuru’s support. They are all hoping for this crucial endorsement that will see either of them inherit the rich vote central region. But what happens to in case Mt Kenya region decide to stand with one of their own in 2022 as already expressed by Kuria?

Analysts now predict of  Ruto Raila coalition if Mt. Kenya decide to turn their backs on the two. This, they say will be used to counter Mt. Kenya’s dominance in Kenyan politics just like in 2007 and this will guarantee the two sure presidential win.
