Homabay residents are in shock after a man jumped into Lake Victoria following a suspected rejection by a lady he was eying for a very long time.
At some point, the man is said to have appealed to businesswomen at Pier Beach in Homabay to prevail on the lady to accept him as a potential mate, but the women ignored him.
Sunday evening, the man had come to the beach to see the lady when she was told by the businesswomen that the girl of her dreams was not around.
At the time, reports indicate that he had with him a woven carrier bag and a Bible with the name of the girl written on it.
It is after the women jeered him on her prospective suitor’s absence that he is said to have left for the seashore in a huff.
However, the businesswomen at the lakeside would hear screams from the direction the man had gone and rush to the scene.
On arrival, they were shocked to find a Bible and the woven carrier bag the man had, but inside the bag was the man’ shoes.
Authorities in the area have launched a search mission in the lake to retrieve the man’s body after he was reported to have committed suicide.
Homabay Township Location Assistant Chief Mr Duncan Odhiambo confirmed the incident, citing that the man had indeed dived into the lake and drowned following a suspected rejection by his prospective suitor.
This comes just days after a Vihiga man was reported to have killed his wife and jumped into a pit latrine.
The couple had gone missing since Thursday when curious relatives decided to peep into their house only to find a woman’s body lying in a pool of blood.
They would break into the house from where a brief search in the family compound led to the recovery of the man’s body inside a freshly-dug pit latrine.
