Barcelona ended the season in what could have been a great emphatic crowning of the season by clinching a double but it turned out the opposite in the hands of the fellow Spanish side, Valencia.
By suffering a hammering defeat in the space of a couple of weeks, following up their Champions League humiliation at Liverpool by losing the Copa del Rey final 2-1 against underdogs, Valencia over the weekend it was one of their worst ending of the season which would otherwise have been a double for them.
Even though they were comfortable winners of La Liga, finishing 11 points clear of second-placed Atletico Madrid and a record 19 points in front of arch-rivals Real Madrid, the two cup losses have hit hard and mercilessly leaving manager Ernesto Valverde fighting to save his job.
Barcelona midfielders Carles Alena and Arturo Vidal have taken to social media to send messages to supporters after the club’s Copa del Rey defeat to Valencia.
Alena was a late substitute in the 2-1 defeat at the Benito Villamarin and posted a message on Twitter thanking fans for their support.
Estamos muy dolidos por como terminó la temporada. Solo quiero dar las gracias a toda la afición por el apoyo durante toda la temporada. Volveremos porque somos el BARÇA! No tengáis ninguna duda! Siempre juntos💪 pic.twitter.com/MKdOtHXSjF

He wrote: “We are very hurt by the way the season ended. I just want to thank all the fans for the support throughout the season. We will return because we are the BARÇA! Have no doubt! Always together.”
Meanwhile, Vidal who seems to have a thing for capital letters when with: “Teams are not made from easy wins, but are based on great defeats.”
