Hi Alai.

Thank you for the good work you’re doing.

I happened to have visited Jaramogi Oginga Odinga Referral Hospital Mortuary to collect the body of a friend for burial.

I was shocked by the state of affairs in that biggest facility in Nyanza and Western region.Imagine bodies lying on the floor.

Others partially covered while the rest are not covered. One attendant opined to me that they have no option but to lay those bodies on the floor since they lack enough coolers/coldrooms.

In this facility, there’s no reception room as in the case with other facilities. As you enter through the main entrance, you have to wade through bodies lying on the floor for you to reach a tiny makeshift ‘room’ that they call reception.

Just next to the entrance,is another room whose door is open .Inside are bodies and different body parts some of which have dried and are strewn all over. One can easily see flies and rats roaming freely.

Never forget the strong stench that comes from the rooms. You look at the attendants and you conclude that they’re really working under very difficult conditions.I literally saw one with torn gumboots.None of the morticians had masks (mouth or face). The buckets are pathetic.Show me any morgue without a waiting/viewing bay?Any without benches for mourners to sit on as they await to collect the bodies of their loved ones?

Jaramogi Oginga Odinga Referral Mortuary neither has a waiting/viewing bay nor benches.Mourners sit on grass. How much can it cost Nyong’o to fully equip this biggest facility with enough coolers? How much can it cost him to erect benches and viewing bays for mourners?

I believe the amount he has spent in the many trips he’s made abroad is enough to equip the facility.
