Raila exposes the fake gold syndicate and how Wajir airport was to be used

As the gold syndicate saga deepens, ODM officials who had remained quiet as MPs allied to DP Ruto implicated the opposition chief Raila Odinga into the saga have now let the cat out of the box.

The politicians now allege that the move to impeach Matiang’i will bear no fruit as it is ill-advised and that all elected leaders from the community are ready to stand by their hardworking son who has shown he has the ability to lead the country in future

Raila Odinga has credited himself for exposing the fake gold syndicated whose success according to him depended on using names of influential political figures to convince potential buyers that the business was genuine.

Raila says that he flushed out the cons himself through a meeting with the conned businessmen and further says that during the meeting, he vindicated the other person mentioned in the audio clip that leaked– Interior Cabinet Secretary Fred Matiang’i — describing him a victim of a witch-hunt.

“I was the whistle-blower in the fake gold syndicate when I discovered some people were using senior government officials’ names to con businessmen,” he said.

“I told the businessmen that whoever they were told would clear their gold was not Matiang’i after I was handed over the phone after one of them said he had spoken to Matiang’i. I clearly identified the voice on the other end as being of a different person altogether,” said Raila.Image result for Mr Wetang’ula

Mr Wetang’ula has been adversely mentioned in the saga after an audio tape was circulated in which someone who sounds like him was heard assuring a member of the Saudi royal family that all was well following the intervention of President Kenyatta, Mr Odinga and Dr Matiang’i and that the gold would be delivered to him.

But on Thursday evening, detectives confirmed their fears about lawlessness at the airport when, in the process of a security operation, they intercepted a lorry ferrying suspicious metal boxes out of the airport.

On being questioned, the driver of the Mitsubishi Canter registration number KCH 527T told police that he was ferrying cargo from the airport but declined to say what he was carrying.Image result for matiangi

He said people against the minister are fighting him simply because he has been doing his job as the man in charge of the country’s security.

“They are now tying him with chains to slow him down. We know them, but they will not succeed,” he said.

While vindicating Dr Matiang’i, Mr Odinga said he had worked for many years with the Interior CS and described him as a hardworking person of high integrity.

Raila further noted that the cartels behind the syndicate had planned to clear the gold and have it leave the country through Wajir airport.
