Deputy President Wiliam Ruto’s 2022 Presidential ambition may hit the tunnel if the vocal Wiper Leader Johnstone Muthama plan to have kicked out of 2022 elections bears fruits.
The former Machakos Senator Johnstone Muthama has claimed that Ruto must retire alongside President Uhuru Kenyata in 2022.
Muthama has says that he has sought enough legal consultation as he moves to the constitutional court to compel DP Ruto to hang up his political boots upon expiry of their second term in office.
Speaking during a burial in Kangundo constituency, Machakos County on Friday, Muthama said that the presidency is not a preserve of few big tribes.
He said that DP Ruto’s candidature will deny other tribes and communities in Kenya from ascending to the presidency.
According to Muthama, the current constitution arrangement does not give affair political power sharing.
“I have met my lawyers and instructed them to move to the constitutional court to seek a declaration that once a sitting president completes his second term in office, his deputy should also retire automatically,” he said .
The former Machakos Senator observed that the current law does not state whether or not a DP who serves two consecutive terms in office may be barred from seeking the elective position.
Muthama claimed that the dominance of big tribes in the country’s power politics is responsible for her glaring inequalities.
“In this country, the richest families are those which have been in top leadership. It is a known fact that individuals who own thousands of acres of land are people who have been in senior government positions,” he told the Standard.
Muthama is not the first politician to threaten to block DP Ruto’s presidential ambition in court. In December last year, former Jubilee Vice Chairperson David Murathe also threatened to move to the Supreme Court to stop DP Ruto’s 2022 ambition.
Murathe claimed that DP Ruto does not qualify to be president in 2022 and should equally retire alongside President Uhuru Kenyatta.
DP Ruto allies however rubbished Murathe’s threat saying that his (Ruto) presidential ambition in 2022 is unstoppable.
It is not the first time that Muthama has made attacks on the Deputy President Claiming that he should not be in power, few weeks ago , he asked President Uhuru to declare his stand on the corruption allegations placed against his Deputy Ruto and that they were enough reason to have him impeached;
