Interesting Facts You Didn’t Know About Uhuru’s Personal Life

Many of us know Uhuru Kenyatta as the President of our beautiful country Kenya, but not many know more about his personal life.

Like every other walking and living human being, Uhuru has had a fair share of ups and downs, struggles and successes before becoming Kenya’s 4th President. He experienced hardships in life as well and managed to cruise through the hard times before becoming the 4th president of the Republic of Kenya.

Here are 10 fun facts about our president you might not have known;

1. He worked as a cashier at KCB Bank

Well, as it would seem, being the son of the first president was no reason for him to slack and take life easy. In the years between 1979 and 1980, Uhuru got a job at KCB Bank, Kipande House on Kenyatta Avenue where he was earning a monthly salary of 600 shillings.

2. Worked as a waiter at Burger King in the US

Nobody would expect the son a president to work at a restaurant but the son of Kenyatta actually did.  In the 1980s, while living in the US, Uhuru Kenyatta worked as a waiter at Burger King, a Chain restaurant in the US that sells Burgers.

3. He spent very little time at State House when his father was president

The Late Mzee Jomo Kenyatta as it would seem was a man who wanted his kids to grow up not in the limelight of being the president’s kids but learning what it’s like to live a normal life.

Uhuru Kenyatta spent very little time in State House despite his Father being there. He lived most of his life in Gatundu, his village home. That is why Uhuru is so fluent in his first language, Kikuyu.

4. He was a village photographer back in Gatundu.

This might surprise you but Uhuru was once a photographer back in his village in Gatundu. Being the royal family, Kenyatta’s family were among the first to acquire camera devices.

This gave Uhuru the privilege to move around the Gatundu taking photographs of important occasions and memorable events.

5. His favorite ministry he ever worked for is Trade

Besides being a president, he has worked as a minister as well. He says the favorite ministry he ever worked for is Trade.

He enjoyed working as a minister at the Ministry of Trade.

6. He used to export horticulture using his pick up

Unlike most of us today, who desire white collar jobs, Uhuru Kenyatta never at one point shied away from what most people would refer to as low-class jobs.

He went into farming full time and started importing horticulture aided by a pick up he had purchased.

7. He lost the first parliamentary election

Considering how he started out, his political journey has not been an easy one. When he decided to get into politics, he would face the biggest set back when he lost the first parliamentary election but he never gave up.

And as many of you can recall, he lost several times his bid for the presidency until 2013, when he was massively elected by the people of Kenya.

President Uhuru Kenyatta met Margaret Kenyatta in Mombasa and proposed to her in Karen, Nairobi. He was 30 years at the time. Other interesting facts include his first meeting with South Africa’s Freedom liberator Nelson Mandela.

Uhuru Kenyatta had the privilege of meeting Nelson Mandela and to him, that’s the most inspirational person he has talked and interacted with.
