Detectives from the EACC conducted an early dawn raid operation on Kiambu governors homes in search of crucial documents that will aid in an ongoing operation over the alleged misappropriation of funds from the county Kitty.
Several hours after the operation, the governor has been arrested and taken in for further questioning.
The officers found the governor unaware during the raid in his palatial homes in Runda, Kiambu and Garden estate where they ransacked them for documents.
Waititu was put on the radar of EACC over claims of misappropriation of funds and his sudden acquisition of mass wealth in the capital of Nairobi.
The commission has been conducting a lifestyle audit on Waititu and says they have gathered crucial information that they are now using as the basis of their investigations.
Kenya Revenue Authority has also put him on the spot when documents in their possession showed that he has not paid his taxes in the past years. Waititu has denied claims of corruption and insisted his property was legally acquired.
The lifestyle audit was ordered by president Uhuru on high-net-worth individuals who live lavish lifestyles yet pay little taxes. President Kenyatta said that any such individuals need to reveal their source of wealth and pay taxes.
