V8 selling at Sh6.5m in Nairobi found to be stolen and number plates changed

An SUV stolen after in Nairobi Central Police Station area on 7th April 2019 has been traced by special crimes detectives and later found in Kajiado county, Ngong neighbourhood.

Authorities have identified four “potential suspects,” according to the DCIs office.

The motor vehicle Registration No. KBX 449A Toyota Landcruiser was reported stolen from police watch and was initially white in colour but upon interception by police, it was found changed to black and number plates changed to KCL 390P.

Further investigations reveal that the suspects intended to sell the vehicle to an unsuspecting buyer for Ksh. 6.5M.

On average, the Directorate of Criminal Investigations handles 10 cases of fake and duplicated number plates in a month, mostly mounted on illegally smuggled vehicles, stolen vehicles and those used by criminals.

It is alleged that Detectives, acting on intelligence carried out the operation on the private house within Ngong area and arrested 4 suspects in connection to an organized crime in which vehicles are stolen, dismantled and spare parts sold.

Vehicles are also replaced with other spare parts from other stolen vehicles and the original ones sold.

Nairobi is considered the leading county in terms of car theft which is considerably understandable given the huge number of cars in the city. Flying Squad detectives have applications installed in their phones that generate details of the car including colour, year of manufacture, chassis number, car make and other crucial information when a number plate is keyed in.
