Man arrested after sharing photo of himself holding a gun on Facebook

Image result for posing with g3 kenyaA Kirinyaga county man has been arrested and charged after a photo of him holding a G3 rifle appeared on social media.

The photo, which was posted to Facebook shows the man holding the rifle which is popular with police officers in Kenya.

The post set off a manhunt and police scoured the precinct for the man who according to police source is suspected to have been involved in violent robberies in the region. Cops found him at his home in Umbui village in Gichugu Constituency following a tip off from members of the public.

Police have so far obtained court orders to hold him for 10 days to establish how he acquired the gun and took the photo.

In February, a man was spotted picking garbage with a gun in Nairobi’s Pipeline estate and the picture posted online. The image reportedly sparked a police investigation and was shared among officers who told each other to “watch out.”

According to the Directorate of Criminal Investigations, the ‘garbage collector’ was seized after the matter was brought to their attention by Kenyans on Twitter (KOT).
