Eldoret lawyer butchers colleague mercilessly in a nasty house party

A Eldoret-based lawyer is in police custody for allegedly stabbing his fellow advocate to death at a house party in Eldoret, Uasin Gishu County.

Abel Mogaka was on Wednesday arraigned before Eldoret Chief Magistrate Charles Obulutsa where the prosecution made an application for 10 days to complete investigations as well as modify the charges against the accused.

A ruling on the two application is expected today (Thursday).

The suspect is alleged to have stabbed and seriously injured his colleague after a confrontation ensued between them during a party hosted at a house of their fellow advocate on Friday, May 17.

According to reports, the deceased died on Tuesday, May 21 while receiving treatment at Mediheal Hospital in Eldoret.

Initially, the prosecution was set to charge Mogaka with stabbing and injuring the deceased but are now considering preferring charges of murder against him.

Elsewhere, a further analyses on the brain of the seven month old baby Ethan Muendo shows that the infant suffered some bleeding at the surface of the brain prior to his death.

The development comes more than two weeks after baby Ethan died after he was allegedly injected with an overdose of morphine at Shalom Community Hospital in Machakos County.

The hospital has since been closed.

According to a Pathology report released by a team of pathologists led by Kenyatta National Hospital’s Dr. Daniel Zuriel the infant suffered raised intracranial pressure.

The postmortem report further stated that the infant suffered raised pressure in the brain. The team of pathologists has however extracted microscopic samples of the brain for further analysis at the Government chemist which will form part of the final report.

Three Shalom Community hospital workers were charged with manslaughter at the Machakos Law courts over the death of the baby.

Appearing before Senior Resident Magistrate Irene Kahuya, the three Vincent Njau Ng’ang’a, Irene Katete Mutinda and Odhiambo Kennedy denied the charges and were released on a bond of Ksh500 thousand each.

The court heard that the accused persons jointly with others not before the court caused the death of Ethan Muendo.

The accused faced a second count of recklessness and negligence, causing harm to the baby.
