Ministry Explains Why Girls Should be Kept in School

Health CS Sicily Kariuki has said that keeping girls in school is the most effective preventive measure against maternal and child deaths at the ‘Women and Girls: Investing to Safeguard Future Generations’ event in Geneva, Switzerland Tuesday.

Also, the CS revealed that being in school is the only sure way of preventing girls from the transmission of HIV/AIDS.

According to the Health Ministry, maternal mortality indicators in Kenya have improved. Over 2,000 annual deaths have been averted due to focusing on mothers wellbeing during pregnancy and postpartum changes.

The event was hosted by the Government of Kenya and the Global Fund to fight AIDS, TB and Malaria.

Stepping up the fight should not be seen as a choice, but as the fulfilment of a promise. This moment presents us with an opportunity to take a massive step toward achieving Sustainable Development Goal 3: health and well-being for all.
