Graham Potter finally given green light to join Brighton as a manager

Graham Potter has been confirmed and appointed as the new Brighton manager on a four-year deal that will see him stay with the Seagulls until 2023 which come after his former employer, Swansea expressed their desire to keep the manager.

The 44-years-old Potter leaves Championship side Swansea and replaces Chris Hughton, who was sacked a week after the Seagulls finished 17th in the Premier League and just a day after the Premier League came to a stop.

Potter was given permission to talk to Brighton after telling Swansea late last that he wanted to leave with many linking his desire to leave with the continuing financial uncertainty at the Championship club as some of the key factors behind his decision to make an exit request.

Potter rose to prominence in Sweden as he guided Ostersunds to three promotions, a Swedish Cup win and a spot in the Europa League after which he took over at Swansea following their relegation last summer and guided them to 10th in the Championship table despite drastic cost-cutting measures.

Brighton Albion will now be hoping that he will help them climb up the table following a miserable end to last season to join the Premier League.

Potter joined the Welsh side from Swedish side Ostersunds FK in June 2018 and guided them to a 10th-place finish and the Brighton Chairman could not hide his joy to have Potter join his side believing he is the right man to steer the club to higher heights.

“We believe that Graham is an excellent fit for our club,” said Brighton chairman Tony Bloom.

“We are delighted to have secured the services of one of the brightest young English coaches. Graham Potter has an excellent record of developing teams with an attractive playing style, fierce determination and a strong collective spirit.

“We are excited about our third successive season in the Premier League and we now wish to build on the solid foundations laid by Chris Hughton.”

Swansea assistant manager Billy Reid, coach Bjorn Hamberg and head of recruitment Kyle Macaulay will join Potter at the Amex Stadium.
