Wetangula Escapes to China as Arrest Looms

News reaching our desk is that Bungoma Senator Moses Wetangula sneaked to China on Saturday night as investigations into the mind-boggling fake gold scam unravel.

Wetangula is one of the senior government officials who have been mentioned in the scandal that saw a Saudi Royal Family lose more than sh400 million worth of gold.

An audio clip that has since gone viral on social media, shows the Ford Kenya Party Leader assuring someone that they would get their gold because President Uhuru Kenyatta and Raila Odinga were involved.

DPP Noordin Haji, has accused those spreading the audio as being alarmists.

“Such claims and their circulation through social media and specifically, leaked phone recordings in today’s age of real time borderless publishing are alarmist and may needlessly cause disaffection. Until all facts are obtained and analysed it is irresponsible to publish such material to the public.”

Even though the DCI has not summoned Wetangula, some people think it is only a matter of time before the politician is called to record a statement.

Wetangula has not issued a statement about the allegations, even though Kenyans point to a trip he made to Dubai in September last year, as the time he met links with the Saudi Prince.

Last week, police arrested flamboyant city businessman Jared Otieno as one of the key suspects to the scam. Otieno is being held for 7 days as investigations continue.
