Recently, a friend of mine and I realized we at some point had both had the same kinds of ex’s who went out of their way to make us jealous and in the worst way, by letting us know when other men hit on them or were checking them out. We had story after story of them telling us about talking up some stunning men who’d chatted them up with clear sexual interest. Other men were eyeballing them all night! Sometimes they just brought it up to their past exploits with men who totally wanted them. It was totally transparent. But the lack of subtlety did not make it any less bewildering.
I looked around online and found that countless men have asked the same question. “Why does my girlfriend love to make me jealous?” The anecdotes vary, but the gist of it is the same. Girls dropping stories of men being all up on their spaces to make their partners feel bad, presumably so he’ll double down to prove how true his love really is.
Here, a man wonders why his girlfriend loves to tell him how many guys hit on her. Here, a man wonders why his girlfriend constantly tells him about a “sexy” man in one of her classes, and how she fantasizes about other men. Here, a man wonders why his girlfriend constantly regales him with stories about other men’s attractiveness and her past relationships with other men. This girl always tells her boyfriend how she could totally f… other people and stuff, but she doesn’t on account of how much she loves him. Lucky guy!
It’s unfathomable to me that this would have to be said, but apparently so: This is insanely weird, stunted behavior that is only done by insecure, immature ladies who don’t really know how to be in a relationship. It does not make them hotter, it makes them annoying. Worst of all is that when women do this, and men react with the very jealousy the women want them to feel, they will often accuse the man of being insecure. It’s a neat deflection. If a man objects to women making them jealous of her insecurity, it’s her confidence that needs a boost.
