Barcelona Still ‘Hurt’ From Liverpool Collapse, Frustrated With Fans

Barcelona choked in their Champions League semi-final second leg, losing 4-0 at Anfield just six days after winning 3-0 at home.

Lionel Messi clearly looked distraught at the whistle as he trudged off the pitch and down the tunnel.

And according to Marca, Messi is still hurting, and he’s also not happy with Barca fans.

The Catalonian crowd wasn’t happy with their side as they ran out 2-0 winners over Getafe in the league last Sunday.

Philippe Coutinho, who hasn’t hit it off with Barcelona fans since he arrived from Liverpool in January 2018, was whistled during the game.

And so was Sergio Busquets, despite being one of the most influential players in the club’s history.

After the game, Messi left the field quickly and barely acknowledged Barca supporters on his way off the pitch.

Earlier this month, Messi gave his thoughts on the fans’ treatment of Coutinho, who was dismal in the clash with Liverpool.

“This is a time when we have to be more united than ever, both as players and fans,” Messi said.

“This is something we have to achieve together and it is not the moment to criticize anybody.

“It is ugly to see [the crowd] treat a team-mate like that.”

Messi hasn’t won a Champions League since 2015 and has once again faltered in his attempts to chase Cristiano Ronaldo’s tally of five.

The Argentine was arguably the best player in Europe once again this season, having registered 48 goals and 28 assists this season.

Coutinho, on the other hand, has scored just five times in La Liga and 11 in all competitions, assisting five as well.

Barca still have the opportunity to win another trophy this season, when they come up against Valencia in the Copa Del Rey final.
