Nyamira residents have been left in shock after news emerged that Governor Nyagarama’s Personal Assistant was tasked to chair a powerful meeting in the Governor’s boardroom.
Mr Samuel Abuga, the PA to Governor John Nyagarama, on Thursday chaired powerful Opening Tenders Committee amid concerns over impunity and maladministration in the county government.
Activist Vincent Omao bashed the county government leadership, arguing that the aide cannot sit in the committee according to the law.
“Funny that Governor John Nyagarama’s PA is chairing Opening Tenders Committee. This is unlawful and punishable. An action should he taken,” he said.
A Personal Assistant is a very Junior staff who is supposed to keep the governor’s diary and receive phone calls, but Nyagarama has elevated this one to a position above even the Deputy Governor.
It should be noted that Nyamira is one of the worst development counties since the onset of devolution. Nyagarama has failed the people of Nyamira. Revenue is still being collected using the old method of receipting allowing corruption loopholes.
The governor has also failed to stem the supremacy battles between his executive and the county assembly. The two houses blackmail each other and trade political barbs.
Nyagarama is also being investigated by the EACC on allegations that he violated the law by irregularly appointing two chief officers.
