It is Kenya’s first time after 15 years to feature in the African Cup of Nation (AFCON). The competition which is slated to begin on June 21 is expected to run till July 19 in Cairo, Egypt.
Kenyans expect a lot and would want to come out of the competition with some reasons to smile. This is why fans are keen on any flaw that they see in the team.
Hours after naming the 30-man killer squad, fans poured on Twitter to bash the selection, after realizing that two Kariobangi Sharks goalkeepers John Oyemba and Brian Bwire were also included in the squad.
And then the inclusion of John Oyiemba and Brian Bwire, two goalies from Kariobangi Sharks. When we have good goalkeepers with better stats like Gad Mathews and James Saruni….is like the peace of God friends. Surpasses all logical understanding. #harambeestars #AFCON2019

Perhaps what triggered the debate again was after Kariobangi Sharks were beaten 2-0 by Sony Sugar on Wednesday. Fans once again flooded the social media to troll Harambee Stars coach for the selection of the two Sharks keepers. Many expressed their worry owing to the fact Sony Sugar are not bigwigs in the Kenya Premier League and yet Sharks managed to concede two goals.

Kariobangi Sharks have lost 2-0 to Nzoia Sugar. The goalkeeper of the day is one of the two goalies from the squad who are on the Harambee Stars provisional squad for #AFCON2019. You canβt make this stuff up. Even if you tried π

FKF President Nick Mwendwa had come out to defend the two goalkeepers were chosen by the coach because they are good and deserve to represent Kenya in the elite competition.
