A father has been slapped with a life imprisonment after he was found guilty of defiling his nine year old daughter. Samuel Mbugua reportedly committed the horrible offence at Kangemi on December 2013. This has been revealed by the office of the Directorate of Public Prosecutions.

On the other hand the heartbreaking story where a girl confessed framing dad for false rape due to following mothers instruction to destroy him took a rather worse turn as the Court of Appeal has dismissed Julius Wambua Musyoki’s application to introduce his daughter’s evidence in his appeal.
A three-judge bench led by Appellate Court president, William Ouko, Wanjoru Karanja and Jamila Mohamed declined the application by Wambua on the basis that the request is time barred and that the court-set timelines for filing and producing evidence had already lapsed.
The cases are followed by the news that Members of Parliament have called on on the DPP Noordin Haji to benchmark on best practices on prosecution of Sexual and Gender Based Violence

The 2010 Constitution of Kenya places significant emphasis on human rights, equality and justice, and has established independent commissions to oversee the protection of particular rights and freedoms.
One of these is the National Gender and Equality Commission(NGEC), which is mandated with promoting gender equality and freedom from discrimination, with a special focus on special interest groups including women, youth, children, persons with disabilities, the elderly and minority or marginalised communities.
Do you agree that Haji should benchmark on best practises on prosecution of SGBV?
