Tours and travel professions have raised concerns over the emerging use of regular matatus to ferry tourists to various destinations in the place of the traditional tour buses and vans.
Through the East Africa Tour Guides Twitter handle, tour guides decried the infiltration of matatus which are slowly kicking them out of business.
“Matatus doing tour business is derailing the tourism sector. Tour guides spend a lot of resources in training and licences,” the tour guides stated on Twitter.
The guides are now calling upon relevant authorities to stop the matatu trade, and let the professionals do their job.
