Odinga losing grip on Nyanza politics still strong

The heckling of opposition leader Raila Odinga at Muhoroni in Kisumu County has triggered new political debate across the Country with questions being raised whether the premier has lost grip on the ground politics.

Anti-Raila protesters carry placards written “Handshake is not for land grabbing” in clear attack on his truce with Uhuru.

Heckling triggers melee with a section of Raila’s backers landing on the protesters with blows.

The hell broke when Raila stood up to speak about an industrial park the government wants to build in the area. The residents want compensation before the project takes off on their land.

Mr. Odinga’s critics are now writing his political obituary. While that may be extreme, questions abound on whether Mr Odinga is gradually losing the touch in his Nyanza region backyard, especially after his shock decision in March to embrace his hitherto political rival President Uhuru Kenyatta.

Being the third time humiliation, political analysts state that Kenyans are now looking for new blood of leadership that is ready to resolve the problems that locals face.

The worst incident happened in Siaya Sub County in a recent mini-poll where Ugenya people decided to elect David Ochieng as their MP leaving ODM’s choice Christopher Karan whose election was nullified by the Siaya High court over discrepancies resulting to a by-election.

The same happened in Embakasi South where Ishrad Sumra (ODM) was beaten hands down by his opponent Julius Mawathe of Wiper Party.

His misfortunes started when Kisumu West constituency locals deliberately chose to vote in Olago Aluoch as their Member of Parliament, Kisumu East tasked Shakeel Shabbir and Onyango K’Oyoo in Muhoroni.

The legislators did not vie on ODM ticket despite the area being green for the Orange party.
