Kenyan international Jesse Were has been the top scorer in the Zambian Super League and has been the most consistent striker averaging 17 goals in the league every season.
By January, Jesse Were’s second goal against Kaizer Chiefs saw the Harambee Stars striker move top of Zesco United’s all-time scorers.
However, Kenyans are a disappointed lot after the international player was left out in the 26-man squad named on Tuesday that will open the campaign against Algeria on June 23 at Cairo’s June 30 Stadium for the 2019 AFCON final.
Harambee stars coach believes Were is a tourist in the squad and you know why?

Many had tipped the 30-year-old to earn a recall to the national team for their upcoming games against Senegal, Algeria, and East African neighbours Tanzania after his stunning form for Zambia’s side Zesco United.
But what most Kenyan fans don’t know is that despite Were’s good performance in the Zambian league, he has played for Harambee stars 26 times and has not been able to score a single goal.
Jesse Were hubabaika sana akichezea harambee stars..no wonder he has no goal in 26 matches..

Speaking to the media, Harambee stars coach, Migne revealed why he has decided against naming the striker in his squad.
“He has had the chance to impress for Kenya but on many occasions he never lives up to the task. He has enjoyed over 26 call-ups but he never scores goals for the team.
“Were might be the leading player currently in the Zambia league but he is yet to carry the form to the national team and all I can assure him is that the door is still open for him, we have not shut it for him.
“He will still play for the team but first of all, he must prove himself outside club duty.”
The final squad will have 26 people. Migne said that despite the poor record for the stars he said that we are not going there as tourists and his target is going past the group stage.
stars have participated in the competitions in six editions and only won once and has never gone past the group stage.
The team travels to France on 31st of this month.
