Video: Raila blasts media for spreading negativity on Kisumu SGR deal

Opposition leader Raila Odinga has finally broken his silence on the halt of the Standard Gauge Railway (SGR) extension plans to Kisumu, which also happens to be one of his political strongholds.

Speaking on Tuesday alongside Transport Cabinet Secretary James Macharia, the leaders declared that the proposed extension of SGR to Kisumu has not been abandoned by the government as suggested by media.

β€œThe plan for SGR phase II construction are still on. After doing that Malaba wing, we shall now say that we have a profitable line all the way from Malaba to Mombasa, which can also help us fund this leg from Naivasha to Kisumu so that we do not have to struggle,” CS Macharia clarified.

This is while Raila, who also doubles up as the African Union High Commissioner for Infrastructure Development added that the railway line will extend to Kisumu and cover areas like Narok, Bomet, Nyamira, Sondu and added that feasibility studies are still being carried out.

“The media has been coming up with all sorts of propaganda, and I don’t why our media is so negative,” Raila added.
