One man was killed in Meru while five of his friends were taken ill after taking illicit brew.
According to area Assistant Chief Joseph Mutiga, after drinking home-made honey beer.
This is said to have taken place at Ntoombo village, Tigania West, in the county.
This is as nearly 4,000 litres of illicit brews were destroyed in Rarieda last month.
The security officers destroyed 2,500 litres of unlicensed liquor from Uganda, popularly known as Simba waragi, and 1,480 litres of chang’aa.
County Commissioner Joseph Onyango said consistent destruction of such brews would discourage the trade. “We have established that there are some rogue judicial officials who collude with the peddlers and that some of the liquor taken to court finds its way back to villages,” he said.
He warned local administrators and police officers said to be protecting illicit liquor traders that they would be punished.
