As the Kenyan politicians crisscross the country in a move to secure their political bases ahead of 2022 elections, one thing that has come out on the open is that there will be new political alliances before 2022.
Musalia Mudavadi and Kalonzo Musyoka may be the biggest beneficiaries of Uhuru-Raila deal that has roped the two leaders in. It is touted an aggressive campaign around the country, disguised as support for the handshake is in the offing, rallies which will bring together leaders from Uhuru,Raila, Kalonzo, Mudavadi and Gideon Moi camps.
Even though President Uhuru and ODM Leader Raila Odinga have publicly shied away from the 2022 talk, leaders from their camps have continued to reveal an alliance between the two, as a possible political vehicle for the 2022 polls.
Nominated MP Maina Kamanda and former MP Kabando wa Kabando –key Uhuru allies – have in the recent past publicly hinted at a possible alliance for 2022 that will see Uhuru and Raila in one political party against Deputy President William Ruto.
ODM Party, on the other hand, has begun an intensive political campaign in Odinga’s backyard to prepare locals for a possible alliance with Uhuru Kenyatta. The political rallies will be attended by leaders from the Kieleweke group that has thrown its weight behind President Uhuru as well as his truce with Raila Odinga.
However, the latest move by Baringo Senator Gideon Moi and ANC leader Musalia Mudavadi to join the fray has caught the attention of many. Whereas both Mudavadi and Senator Moi have been at the backseat watching from a distance as Uhuru and Ruto camps tear each other down, they have finally decided to join in the tug of war, publicly.
Senator Moi was in Meru over the weekend where he publicly endorsed thoughts of a common alliance between Uhuru and Raila that will bring together all leaders across the political divide.
As if it was coordinated and planned, ANC leader was in Kisumu and challenged anyone with details of a deal between Uhuru and Ruto to put it public, so that those who have a claim on the same can stop saying how Uhuru is betraying Ruto. Mudavadi seemed to echo Raila Odinga’s sentiments that Ruto will not hold Kenyans hostage with his demands of an endorsement.
In case the ODM leader decides to retire from politics, then his one-time political partner Musalia Mudavadi is set to take over the mantle from him. This will be considered a way of paying back to the Luyha nation who have for a long time stood with Raila Odinga.
On the other hand, Uhuru Kenyatta is expected to front Gideon Moi as Mudavadi’s running mate as a way of giving back to the Moi’s family who endorsed him in 2002 after retired of former president Daniel Moi. This will serve as sweet revenge for Raila against William Ruto.
