Let’s say you love to cook. You like to cook good food. You children love it and your spouse adores it. What if someone told you that you could find your way into the Guinness World Book Of Records.
Pwani Oil will officially sponsor Mombasa based Chef Maliha Mohammed who has been nominated by the Guinness World Record to attempt to break the world record for most hours spent cooking.
The sponsorship will see the Mombasa-based cooking oil and detergent maker Pwani Oil cater for all her expenses in the competition which is set to take place in August 2019, as well as preparations for the event.
The 36-year-old, Chef Maliha, is aiming to cook for 75 hours non-stop to break the current record held by Rickey Lumpkin from California, USA who cooked for 68 hours 30 minutes and one second in December 2018.
Rajul Malde, Pwani Oil’s Commercial Director, said the company had seen the plight of Chef Maliha in the local media last month, where she called upon well-wishers to support her to bring the title to Kenya, and saw it as an opportunity to help develop local talent.
“We are excited to be part of Chef Maliha’s journey to break the Guinness World Record and bring the title to Kenya. Further, it is our hope that the support we give helps her realize her potential as a chef,” said Mr Malde.
“Pwani Oil will help cover chef Maliha’s costs including charges to be paid to Guinness World Record, equipment required, food to be prepared, her team’s recruitment and coordination, support including doctors, timekeepers, cameramen and technicians,” added Malde.
The sponsorship also includes assisting the Chef do a couple of runs where she will cook for thirty-six (36) hours as part of her preparation before the scheduled date for the attempt to break the world record.
“I am grateful for the support from Pwani Oil, I am looking forward to breaking this world record and have been investing my own resources to ensure that I will be able to bring this record home, and more so to Mombasa,” said Chef Maliha. “I will be looking to cook a mix of dishes including local and international cuisines. I must showcase what Kenya has to offer especially Swahili dishes.”
She is self-taught and currently works as a chef for a leading non-governmental Organization based in Mombasa.
The Guinness Book of World Records, is a reference book published annually, listing world records both of human achievements and the extremes of the natural world
