Manchester United defender Luke Shaw carries the day after an impressive season

England and Manchester United defender Luke Shaw has won the Player of the year award in this seasons clubs awards held this week outdoing his teammates.

Before his growth to the honour, the defender had a very struggling season in 2017-2018 that forced him out of play for the better part of that season as a result of long-lasting injuries in the time of Mourinho.

The defender succeeds David De Gea, who won the award also known as the Sir Matt Busby Player of the Year award last season after employing n impressive goalkeeping tactics that helped United qualify for the UEFA Champions League

Thursday night’s annual awards ceremony took place at Old Trafford, where Shaw was also named Players’ Player of the Year, as voted for by his team-mates.

Mason Greenwood meanwhile won the Young Player of the Year award, Tahith Chong was named Reserve team Player of the Year and Andreas Pereira won the goal of the season award with his effort against Southampton.

All of the Manchester United players were in attendance, dressed in black to the nines and joined by their significant halves.

The mood wasn’t as bright and light as it has been in previous years though, given United’s disappointing campaign that has been poor more so towards the end of the season which has seen them locked out of the highly coveted Champions League.

Ole Gunnar Solskjaer had hoped to secure Champions League football for next season with a top-four finish this season but that has crumbled down to a sixth position finish.

The Norwegian was unable to get a win against a readily relegated Huddersfield at the John Smith’s Stadium last time out in their second last match of the season settling for a draw.

As a result, Manchester United cannot finish in the top four this campaign, even ahead of their final match of the season against Cardiff.

The Red Devils sign off at Old Trafford on Sunday against relegated Cardiff City, whose fate was settled against Crystal Palace last time out.
