Dream-end for Petr Cech as he meets his former employer in the Europa League finals

Former Chelsea goalkeeper Petr Cech announced that he would be hanging his gloves at the end of the season after a career almost entering two decades and he is going to finish it in a big way.

It will be a meeting that is very difficult to be in, meeting a former boss in a jawbreaking final in one of the highly cherished trophies in Europe.

The Arsenal goalkeeper Petr Cech says it will be a “dream” to face former club Chelsea in the Europa League final in the last game of his career.

The Gunners booked their place in Baku after beating Valencia 7-3 on aggregate in the semi-final, and Cech, 36, is set to retire after the final.

Cech has consistently played in Europa League this term, a choice made by his manager Unai Emery despite dropping behind Bernd Leno in the Premier League.

The former Czech Republic international goalkeeper believes he could continue playing but he says that he wanted to retire under his own terms and not to be pressed to retirement out of circumstances.

Cech added: “You have days when you play well and you think you could continue, but I think I have made the decision with a lot of thought.

The former Czech Republic international joined Chelsea in 2004 and won the Champions League, four Premier League titles, and four FA Cups during his eleven-year stay at Stamford.

He has also won the EuropaLeague with his former club Chelsea back in 2013 where they beat Bayern Munich in the finals to carry the day, a year after they had carried the UEFA Champion League.

Arsenal will play London rivals Chelsea in Baku, Azerbaijan on Wednesday, 29 May and manager Unai Emery said he is “proud of the whole club” after their impressive victory at Valencia.

Leading 3-1 from the first leg, Arsenal fell behind to Kevin Gameiro’s opener before Pierre-Emerick Aubemeyang struck an impressive hat-trick and Alexandre Lacazette score.

Aubemeyang and Lacazette have been pivotal in Arsenal’s route to the final, having scored 13 competition goals between them, and the former says the club has “learned from last season” when they were knocked out by Atletico Madrid in the semi-final.
