Why irate Likoni guard was triggered to beat police to death

A private security guards have been arrested in Likoni by officers from Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) after allegedly beating and injuring a police officer.

The suspect identified as Davis Wafula of Guardforce Security Company, and a bouncer controlling crowd at Kenya ferry services channel descended on the police officer, beating and injuring him. One officer escaped unhurt in the Wednesday afternoon incident.

Likoni police boss Benjamin Rotich reported that a woman had reported to police that the suspect had stolen from her some valuables. He said two police officers were deployed to track the suspect and when he was flushed from his hideout, he resisted police arrest and a scuffle ensued.

“We deployed more officers and at last he was arrested and he will appear in court once the investigation are over,” said police boss. He noted that the suspect will be charged with stealing and assaulting a police officer while on duty. The police chief said his officer who was assaulted was in stable condition.

When contacted for comment, the ferry guard force manager Charles Juma declined to comment on the matter saying he was not allowed to issue any statement.

“Don’t quote me anywhere, I am not allowed to comment on such matter, secondly the incident happened out of duty, it didn’t happen within the job jurisdiction,” he said. Early this year, a private security regulatory authority PSRA gave a go-ahead to private security officers to carry guns as the first line of defence against any incident.
