Police in Kitui are holding a teenager after he slashed his newly wedded wife during a domestic squabble.
The woman identified as Ciru Murimi died at the hands of his lover, John Mutinda at Katithini village in Kitui Tuesday.
Mutinda is said to have slashed the woman dead on Tuesday night at their home.
The scared 19-year-old would later come knocking at the window of his mother in the dead of the night, asking her to escort him to a police station.
“He knocked at my window and requested me to take him to the station because he had accidentally killed his new wife after a misunderstanding,” she said.
Kitui Central police boss, Ms Sicily Gatiti confirmed the bizarre incident noting that the course of the murder remains unknown.
“We were alerted about the murder at around 1am on Tuesday night and we then visited the crime scene and recovered a bloodied panga that was we suspect was used in the killing,” said Ms Gatiti.
Ms Murimi’s body was taken to the Kitui County Hospital morgue for preservation.
Mutinda, however, was detained by police for 14 days strating Wednesday.
