In June 2017, enroute to the August General Elections, the Jubilee Administration through Deputy President William Ruto promised Kenyans that they will build four more stadia to the five they promised back in 2013.

Speaking during the unveiling of the Jubilee Party manifesto in Kasarani Stadium, Deputy President William Ruto was at pains to explain why the promise is yet to be fulfilled but exuded confidence that nine stadia across the country will be complete in one year’s time.

“As we talk today, I know many people are saying we made pre-election promises in 2013 that we have not actualized them. But in six months’ time, the stadium in Wote will be complete, in three month’s time the stadium in Chuka will be complete, in three month’s time the stadium in Moyale will be complete, in six month’s time the stadium in Kamarini-West Pokot will be complete, in a couple of months the stadium in Eldoret will be complete,” vowed the Deputy President Ruto.

Fast foward in 2019, Kenyans are yet to see any new stadium built and completed by the Jubilee Government. It is only the County Governments that have worked round the clock to ensure they deliver new stadia to Kenyans.

Kenyans today took their time to remind Ruto of his promises which he has failed to keep to date.

It all started when the Deputy President congratulated both Divock Origi of Liverpool and Victor Wanyama of Tottenham for their great exploits in the Champions League Semi Finals where both their teams went through after a great turnaround of results in the 2nd leg.

Ruto wished Wanyama and Origi all the best as they square it off in the finals in Madrid on June 1 at the Wanda Metropolitano in Madrid.

Origi’s Liverpool progressed to the finals after a 4-3 aggregate win over Barcelona while Wanyama’s Tottenham progressed on the away goal rule after a 3-3 result against Ajax Amsterdam.

The results aside, angry Kenyans took of Ruto with many calling him a liar for failing to live up to his word.

Some were quick to remind him that if he ensured stadia were built all over the country, More Wanyamas and Origis would have been produced in Kenya.
