Third Grade students of Sun Valley Elementary School in Birmingham, Alabama did a remix of Old Town Road, and it is a vibe.
The kids who were led by their Mathematics teacher Ms. Merlette captured their “Classroom Edition” of the viral track ‘Old Town Road’ by Lil NasX and Billy Ray Cyrus. The hyped up version of the viral country-trap track trended online because of its message and the adorable third graders of course.
An alternative approach to encouraging her class to persist with their education, Ms. Merlette has been praised for her innovation and care for her students. Merlette told CNN that she got the idea to produce the video after one of her students shared that they were nervous about an upcoming test. “‘You have no reason to be nervous. You got this! We have been preparing all year!’” Merlette said she told the student. “But then I recalled how stressful end-of-year assessments were for me growing up. The goal of our song was to encourage my kids to remain confident and motivated while taking state exams. Music is a fun and easy way to remind them that they possess the tools for success!”
The lyrics of the track which are “Am gonna ace my test, Gonna raise my score,/ Am gonna solve till can’t no more…I got the answers in the back, the scratch work is attached/ Pencils in my bag, and am solving mighty fast/ School is my task and I can do this math/ Can’t stop me from learning, the wheels in my head keep churning…”
The track has already received a big thumbs up from Lil Nas X and Billy Ray Cyrus taking to social media to share their excitement over the track. Lil Nas X said, “I’m cheesing hard as hell watching this. this beautiful lol” while Myrus Cyrus’ dad endorsed the track saying “That’s what it’s all about.”
‘Old Town Road’ made history garnering 143 million streams in the days after its release. The hit song shattered a streaming record previously held by Grammy Award-winning Canadian rapper Drake for his 2018 hit ‘In My Feelings,’ according to Nielsen Music numbers published by Billboard.
