Outspoken lawyer Abdullahi Ahmednasir has taken on President Uhuru Kenyatta asking him to leave the job of fighting corruption to concerned institutions.

“Why should the president lead the war against corruption?,” Ahmednasir wondered. He said he understood President Kenyatta’s frustration with rampant corruption in government, but that his approach to the issue is wrong.

Ahmednasir’s view is that government, as constituted at the moment, is built to steal.“In the current set up, it is a stealing government, I think he (the president) is completely mistaken,” said the lawyer, who has been given the name Grand Mullah by some.

He described the handshake between Uhuru and ODM leader Raila Odinga as a sham, terming it as a cohabitation. He praised the current Director of Criminal Investigations (DCI) George Kinoti and asked the president to give that institution more resources.

“The CID director is doing a fine job, give him more resources,” he asserted.

But according to Ahmednasir, most cases brought to court are so weak or defective that they are bound to collapse on their own. He said he supported the war on corruption and added that lifestyle audit, which the president proposed last year would be the best solution.

Ahmednasir pointed out that that the courts lacked adequate resources to execute their mandate.

“For the last seven years, the government has been reducing the budget for the judiciary,” he complained.

Ahmednasair, who was speaking during a KTN interview with Tony Gachoka suggested that any new projects undertaken by the government would fail because all the money meant for it would be looted.
