Kiambu Leaders Go For Ruto’s Head After Endorsing Waititu’s Corrupt Dealings

Was DP William Ruto right to come to the defence of embattled Kiambu Governor Ferdinand Waititu?

On Sunday, Ruto claimed that Waititu was being unfairly targeted by being subjected to meaningless questions that had nothing to do with him.

According to the county statement, Kiambu allocated Sh973 million for State House Affairs (Co-ordination of State House functions).

Another weird expenditure was on the administration of statutory benefits for retired presidents at a cost of Sh180 million, and the state corporation advisory service for Sh591 million.

The most puzzling expenditure cited in the report was Sh58 million allocated by the Kiambu government to peacekeeping in South Sudan.

Even after the above revelations, DP William Ruto was still quick to defend Waititu from any wrongdoing.

Some Kiambu leaders have now accused Deputy President William Ruto of defending and abetting corruption. Addressing journalists in Ruiru town, former and current legislators accused Ruto of “rushing to defend” Governor Ferdinand Waititu when he attended a church service at All Saints Komothai Catholic Church in Githunguri, last Sunday.

Led by Gladys Chania, a former woman representative aspirant, the leaders told Ruto to keep off Kiambu matters and allow the relevant bodies to conduct investigations into the allegations.

“It’s sad that a highly respected leader can stand and defend graft as Kenyans continue to wallow in poverty. This county should be dissolved forthwith and new leaders elected,” said Gitau Kuria, a local leader. They, however, said they have no confidence in the Auditor General’s report .

Ruto defence of Kiambu Governor Ferdinand Waititu on audit queries continued to draw criticism yesterday.

Several legislators accused Ruto of trying to shield Waititu from justice for political expedience. They were MPs Mishi Mboko (Likoni), Eve Obara (Kabondo Kasipul), Woman Reps Gladys Wanga (Homa Bay), Ruweida Obbo (Lamu) Fatima Gedi (Wajir) and Christine Ombaka (Siaya).

They were speaking in Magunga market in Homa Bay county during the opening of a modern market by Ida Odinga, wife of ODM leader Raila Odinga.
