The ‘Washangaze’ hitmaker, David Wonder, struggled to survive in Nairobi after school just like any other person.
During an interview, he revealed how he used to scrub ladies legs to earn a living. After completing school, they went back t the upcountry with his family.
Later on, his cousin called him with the good news that he had found a job for him. On arriving, David found out that the job he had been called for was on a beauty parlor.
Since he didn’t want to let down his cousin, he started his work there and would deal with pedicures. He was not comfortable with it but had to, to meet his daily bread.
His music breakthrough came through the EMB boss, Bahati after they did a collabo ‘Ndogo ndogo.’ Unfortunately, even after Bahati having a great impact on his life, they parted ways.
David left Bahati’s EMB during the EMB mass exodus. He said he left because he wanted to build his brand. He narrated how Bahati, their EMB boss told them that he had done his part in their careers and whoever wanted to leave the label was free to do so and, whoever wanted to stay was free to stay.
He went on to say that he had no problem with Bahati and every opportunity that will come his way, he will always be thankful to the EMB Boss for taking him in, when no one saw him.
He said; “Sina mengi ninaweza sema kuhusu hio sahii ila kitu naweza kwambia ni that kuna vitu mingi siwezi kuongelea Lakini kuna vile tulipewa freedom mkurugenzi akatuambia mimi nimewalea mwenye atataka kutoka atoke mwenye anataka kukaa akae.
So mimi nikaona nichukue hii opportunity kumake the brand David Wonder. Not that ati kuna any issue na kila opportunity nitakuwa nikipata nitamshukuru sana mkubwa wangu kwa kunichukua wakati hakuna mtu mwingine alikuwa ananiangalia but nilifeel tu kwamba labda ni muda nijaribu peke yangu hapa nje najua si kurahisi Lakini niko willing kuchukua hio risk.”
