Mediamax People Daily Newspaper was put on the spot, on Twitter in what was termed as a “gutter press and media of doom” for reportedly misinforming the public.
According to a Kenyan online, the local newspaper on its coverage reported that Deputy President William Ruto endorsed the Speaker of the National Assembly, Justin Muturi as Embu County’s next governor.
This was however disbanded as false news by a witness who said he had been watching the event live.
“I didn’t attend the function but I was live on Facebook and watched every minute when as the leaders talked. And I didn’t hear anywhere where DP endorsed the speaker as the next GVN (Governor) of Embu,” said Evangeline Karimi.
This is as the Mediamax media hub that houses the People Daily Newspaper, K24 TV, Milele FM among other stations ownership lies with the government; President Uhuru Kenyatta and Deputy President William Ruto having stake in it.
For the same reason, the media hub’s impartiality in covering the Jubilee government has been critiqued as less stringent.
