Friendship is a lot like falling in love. You meet someone and you immediately hit it off. You will come to realize that you both have similar interests and you instantly start spending time together. You’re like batman and robin. But along the way, you realize that she was more of the joker. What we end up forgetting is that, friendship is based on a give and take basis. You do something, the other does something. Not out of obligation, but because of the mutual understanding and confidence that you’ll do anything for each other. But what happens when the giving stops and it’s just take, take , take? To put it simply, you’ve got a fake friend on your hands. . They may even be standing next to you and you don’t even know it. Lucky for you, there are warning signs to look out for…
1. People show you who they really are….believe them!
If your friend acts a certain type of way around you, and differently in front of other people, best believe that you need to keep an eye out for her. This means that she can easily switch up on you in certain situations and turn her back on you. If she acts the same around you and your other friends, then she is authentic and she is who she says she is.
2. If she likes to talk….
If she’s the kind of friend to run her mouth and gossip a lot, you need to be careful of the things you tell her. Who knows what she’s saying behind your back? With such a friend like this, you need to be weary and alert of the information you share with her.
3. Gives an inch, takes a mile
A real friend is the kind of person who doesn’t expect you to give them things in order to be your friend. They call to either check up on you, spill the tea and just find out what you’re up to. If you have a friend who only calls you to when they want to ask for something, then you and I both know that she’s not worth your time or friendship. There is nothing worse than a friend using you only when they need something from you. DROP her like a BOMB.
4. Your problem, not mine
A fake friend will disappear when you need them the most, and appear when you’re in a better place in your life and act like they never left. Girl, I see you. I know you’re enjoying this. A fake friend will never be there for you when you’re at your lowest point, but somehow “pretend” to celebrate your successes and say things like ” I’m so proud of you. I knew you’d make it. I got you”….Miss me with that BS.
5. Somebody to lean on
If your friend doesn’t stick up for you under any circumstances , you might need to reassess that friendship. A real friend is someone who has your back no matter what. They won’t let anyone trash talk you. Having a person like that on your team is important.
6. Broken promises
If a friend makes a promise, they’ll do whatever it takes to make it happen. They won’t go back on their word unless faced with uncontrollable circumstances. Sometimes one needs to understand that life happens. A real friend will understand. A fake friend will think you’re unreliable and incapable of being supportive and they will call you out.
In this day and age, women are supposed to support each other and help one another grow. We are too old for petty things and fake friends. It’s all about empowering, motivating and pushing each other to become better versions of themselves. Surround yourself with positive vibes and encouragement. Drop the dead weight and move on.
