Ajax star has emerged as a ‘safe Plan B’ target for Europe’s biggest club

Ajax star Donny Van de Beek has emerged as a potential Plan B target for Real Madrid this summer.

The 21-year-old midfielder scored the winning goal as Ajax seized the advantage in their Champions League semi-final tie with Tottenham on Tuesday night.

With 16 goals and 11 assists in all competitions for Ajax this season, Van de Beek is one of Europe’s most exciting talents.

And, according to Marca, Real are keeping tabs on him as they seek to bolster their midfield as part of manager Zinedine Zidane’s expected summer overhaul.

Real’s primary target in midfield is Manchester United’s Paul Pogba, but the Frenchman’s wage demands are forcing the Bernabeu hierarchy to look at alternatives.

And Van de beek could be an alternative option and one for the long-term, with Marca reporting he would cost €60million (£51.4m) to buy.

Van de Beek, a product of the Ajax academy, could well be one of many members of the team on the move this summer regardless of whether they win the Champions League or not.

Van de Beek is thought to have a price tag of 60 million euros which is obviously significantly less than what both Tottenham and Manchester United have demanded for their star men.

Frenkie de Jong has already been signed by Barcelona and Matthijs de Ligt could well follow suit.

Paris Saint-Germain also have Van de Beek on their radar.

It is a similar situation to what has previously occured at Borussia Dortmund after their sensational season in 2013, when they were beaten finalists, and at AS Monaco in 2017 when they were beaten in the Semi-Finals, with their teams being stripped bare of all the young talent by many of Europe’s major clubs.

Van de Beek has been a part of the Dutch league leaders since the age of just 14, and has grown massively on the biggest stage as Ajax plan a stunning return to the top of European football, scoring the winner and the vital away goal against Tottenham in London on Tuesday night.
