An Aide-de-Camp(ADC) is the president’s personal assistant and stays closest to him at all times, including riding in the same car.
ADCs carry out the following duties; escorting the president from State House into a waiting car, opening the door, then standing at attention and saluting when the president sits, receiving gifts and other items on behalf of the president, carrying the president’s personal items like mobile phones and sometimes speeches when going to functions.
The ADC also attends to the needs of the president when required. Lieutenant Colonel Timothy Stelu Lekolool has been President Uhuru Kenyatta’s Aide-de-Camp for quite a while.
Lt. Lekolool, was the first Navy officer to be an aide of the president. He succeeded Lieutenant Col Victor Mburu as President Kenyatta’s third aide.
In what could be an indication of looming reshuffles within Kenya Defense Forces following the expiry of General Samson Mwathethe’s tenure, President Uhuru Kenyatta may have after all received a new aide-de-camp.
General Mwathethe’s term expired a fortnight ago and is set to be replaced should President Uhuru Kenyatta fail to extend it. Usually, an extension is given when the country is at war. With Kenya not in war currently, the changes in KDF are inevitable.

ADCs are more visible during public events, but retire to their residences once the President takes a break.
The ADC works closely with the Presidential Escort Unit Commander, the man directly in charge of Uhuru’s personal security and that of close family members.
