The gambling society has been slapped with a harsh ban by the Betting Control and Licensing Board which has now banned all outdoor, media and social media adverts.

The board has also banned betting firms from using celebrities to endorse their operations.

” Consequently this board has banned advertising gambling between 6 am and 10 pm… The above directive bust is complied with on or before May 30, 2019,”.

In a statement issued on Thursday, the licensing board cited potential harm to the consumer with a possibility of leading to addiction as the reason for the ban.

” … gaming is a demerit good and all demerit goods have the potential to harm to the consumer with a possibility of leading to addiction as well as some disorder. This board, therefore, a regulator has a duty to present its customer, members of the public, the young and the vulnerable,” read the statement.

All gambling adverts must now seek approval from the board and as well contain a warning message detailing the consequences of gambling.

A section of Kenyans, however, have slammed the new move with a citizen claiming that some betting firms will never be closed because they are the major source of revenue.

Others were congratulatory of the idea and hoped it would succeed in saving many who are addicted to gambling.

Others questioned whether the ban would affect housing levy which the government revealed would use the lottery method in distribution of houses.
