Free Bobi Wine was praying to stay in prison

The representative of the people of Kyadondo East Robert Kyagulanyi aka Bobi Wine has finally been released on bail.

Mr. Kyagulanyi was arrested on Monday two days after he was released from being under house arrest. He was facing charges of disobedience of statutory duty.

The court in Uganda has released Bobi Wine on Ksh 27,000 (UGX 1,000,000) bail and Ksh 270,000 (UGX 10million) bond.

The prosecution had proposed that the politician should only be released on a cash bail of ten million Ugandan Shillings.

The jailed legislator revealed to the court he was ready for any outcome including more days in jail for as long as it was the truth he was standing for.

“I repeat that its not me on trial but this court. Whatever you decide is none of my business but my duty is to stand by the truth,” he said.

The submissions of the case were being heard from the court with the accused linking up via video conference. Political watchers say it is the first time the measure is being applied in the country’s justice system.

He maintained his defiant tone when he was granted the opportunity to speak. “It is not me on trial, it is the court itself on trial. If standing for what is right is going to hand me my freedom, I will thank God for it.

“If standing for what is right is going to keep me in this prison then I will thank God even louder. After all, I have a lot of work to do, even here in prison,” he stressed.
