How Mathare United Managed to Humiliate Visitors Zoo Kericho

Zoo Kericho suffered a humiliating defeat after they were thrashed 3-1 by Mathare United at Moi International Sports Centre on Wednesday.

Mathare took full control of the first half and made several attempts at Zoo’s box.

Cliff Nyakeya gave Mathare the lead after scoring with a low strike into the bottom right after Kinyanjui squared the ball into his path. This was the fourth goal in three games for the youngster.

At the 37th minute, Zoo was awarded a penalty after Dennis Omondi was brought down in the box by Situma, a penalty which was converted to a goal to make it 1-1.

Mathare continued to pile pressure to the visitor’s side and James Situma scored a goal in the 41st-minute, which was disallowed by the referee for offside.

First-half ended with a draw of 1-1.

The host maintained their first-half form, sending lethal attacks to Zoo Kericho’s half. And at the 61st minute, Alwanga restored Mathare’s lead with an angled header after Nyakeya found him with a sumptuous delivery from a short corner.

The Slum boys sealed their victory at the 74th minute after Nyakeya scored his second goal of the day after reacting fast to a rebound. Elungat parried Kinyanjui’s shot into his path.

The victory means that Mathare will jump Kakamega Homeboyz and settle at the third position while Zoo Kericho will still maintain their 17th position, two points ahead of Nakumatt Fc who are at the bottom of the table.
