Speculations have always been arising as to why Kenya failed to secure a loan to extend SGR to Kisumu which is Hon Raila Odinga’s dream.
According to the Ministry of foreign affairs, SGR was not among the key priorities to President Uhuru Kenyatta’s visit to China.
Although the idea of extension of SGR has not been fully washed away. Nzioka Waita who is the chief of staff at state house stated that neighboring countries who are poised to benefit from it should strike a deal which will make it be extended. That is Uganda and Rwanda.
But according to Lawyer Ahmednasir Abdullahi the reason as to why Kenya refused to take China’s SGR loan, is that they demanded JKIA as the only security. The deal was viewed as risky politically.
