It has not been established how Sankara was arrested. However, reports indicated that Sankara was picked from Mayote between Mozambique and Madagascar where he was betrayed by a close friend.

Sankara’s National Liberation Forces have been keeping Kagame’s administration awake over its claims that it controls some parts of Nyungwwe forests, sometimes claiming to be staging regular attacks in Nyungwe Forest.
