What people do not know is that Ruto is a successful poultry farmer – and that is only half the story of the other side of Ruto.

Police have launched investigations in Ruto’s secure multi-million farm after 10 crates of eggs worth Ksh 2,500 went missing.

Sources say a team of detectives were deployed to establish the circumstances under which suspected workers are alleged to have stolen the eggs.

It remains puzzling how the suspects would have sneaked the loot out of the farm heavily guarded by General Service Unit (GSU) officers.

Bitok said police have launched investigations to establish whether the workers are colluding with outsiders to steal from the farm said to be supplying hundreds of crates of eggs to towns in North Rift and the capital, Nairobi.

Actually, the DP and his wife Rachel have thousands of chicken some of which they imported from India. The Indian breed includes Kuroiler, a dual purpose chicken. Every day, they collect at least 2,500 eggs.

This is one of the projects that is undertaken by DP’s wife Rachel and her organization, Joyful Women organisation.

Also in the expansive farm, which is several hundred acres, are high-yielding, fast-maturing banana plants obtained from the then Kenya Agriculture Research Institute (now KALRO), and hundreds of mango and avocado trees, a maize farm for silage and maize, and hundreds of dairy cows.
