Following the announcement of Tammy Abraham as a member of the Championship Team of the Season, I believed it only fair to go into detail about some of the incredible seasons that our loanees have been having.

As a club, we have a total of 41 players on loan at this time, and this includes the likes of Christian Pulisic, Alvaro Morata, Jake Clarke-Salter and Ola Aina. Naturally, I cannot go through all of them, and some of which haven’t had much success.

I decided to go through the ten most successful this season, in no particular order, based on performance, success, and the words of their current club.

Reece James

One of multiple youngsters fans want to call to action for next season’s campaign, Reece James has had himself a fantastic year in the Championship with Wigan. In his first senior career he made 45 appearances, scored 3 goals and had 3 assists. Reece played a key part in making sure Wigan maintained Championship status, and played an important role at both central midfield and right back. James was named to the Championship Team of the week multiple times throughout the season.

Tammy Abraham

Tammy Abraham has had himself an absolutely phenomenal season, arguably the best out of all the loanees. Abraham had 37 appearances for Aston Villa, scoring 25 goals and assisting 3. Tammy was named to the Championship Team of the Year, helping Villa fight to get into a playoff position.

“His passion is infectious. We all want results and performances, but supporters want you to work your socks off for the football club. Tammy has that and that’s what you want in the whole group. It breeds a winning mentality and makes you relentless.” – John Terry

Fikayo Tomori

Fikayo Tomori was a man that Derby manager Frank Lampard seemed to have on his mind from the very beginning. Bringing him in from the Chelsea academy immediately, and he was very right in doing so. Tomori has 49 appearances, 2 goals, and an assist for his current club. Holding down the fort multiple times to help Derby sit 6th currently in the Championship, fighting for that playoff position. As if his praises hadn’t been sung enough, Fikayo Tomori was awarded Derby County Player of the Year for his success and dedication to the club.

Mason Mount

After having much success at Vitesse last season, Mason Mount found a home at Derby County under Frank Lampard. With 38 appearances, 10 goals, and 5 assists in his number 8 role, Mount has been another one of Derby’s top players this year. According to Frank, Mason deserves nothing less than the number 8, and is fighting hard to break the lack of successful Chelsea academy players. This is one that fans really want to see back home next campaign, and he has surely proven himself worthy.

Kurt Zouma

Kurt Zouma has most definitely had the largest impact on Chelsea as a loanee this season. Making statements in the back for Everton with their more recent 4-0 win over Manchester United and 1-0 win over Arsenal. Overall, Zouma has 33 appearances, 2 goals, and 2 assists for the club. Currently one of their starting center-backs, he has obviously staked a claim for himself to be a solid Premier League level player.

Tiemoue Bakayoko

After a somewhat frustrating season with Chelsea, Tiemoue returned back to the form he had with Monaco, being a solid option for AC Milan in the center midfield this season. With a total of 38 appearances, he has been a heavy asset for Gattuso. With his successes, it is said that the club is very willing to pay for him. It is safe to say that Bakayoko is a wanted man.

“At this moment we cannot do without him, he must remain at Milan. He is proving technical skills. He can become an important player for this club for many years.” – Gennaro Gattuso

Alvaro Morata

While this may come as a surprise to some, Alvaro Morata has really taken advantage of his half-a-season chances with Atletico Madrid. He has already made 12 La Liga appearances, scored 6 goals and assisted 1, and is liked by Simeone. While the chances of Morata ever being involved at Chelsea again are slim, he sure has found some footing again.

Christian Pulisic

The American man has certainly been doing himself proud in his final season with Dortmund. Even though he has been battling injury, and fighting for time following his signing announcement, Pulisic been involved in many important goals for his club this year. With 26 appearances, 5 goals, and 5 assists, Pulisic is still a solid option for Dortmund, and continues to work hard whilst Blues fans await his arrival this summer.

Tomas Kalas

A Chelsea loanee that has mostly been hidden in the shadows this season, Czech Republic’s Tomas Kalas has played a very important role in the fantastic season that Bristol City is having. With 35 appearances, Kalas is helping Bristol fight for a playoff spot and try and earn a Premier League promotion.

Mario Pasalic

Mario Pasalic is probably the most consistent loanee so far. Having spent multiple years on loan in Serie A, he has found some solid ground this season for Atalanta. So far Pasalic has 36 appearances, 6 goals, and 7 assists for his club. He seems like someone Chelsea is still somewhat interested in, spending summer and preseason with the team.

There are obviously 30 plus other loanees, some of which have had quite decent seasons this year. Honorable mentions to go players like Kenneth Omeruo, Matt Miazga, Jay Dasilva, Ola Aina, and Bekanty Angban.

Some of these players could very well end up in Chelsea Blue next season, which would you like to see?
