Boda-boda guy sends a fourth-year student to early death over Ksh 100

According to a pathology report conducted by Chief Pathologist Dixon Mchana, the death of the fourth-year student from Masinde Muliro University of Science and Technology (MMUST) Clement Omollo Ogendo was caused by severe head injury secondary to blunt force trauma, following an assault.

According to investigations, prior to his death, it is alleged that a Boda Boda rider was spotted by the soldier manning the club picking Omollo before news emerged that he had allegedly murdered him after a disagreement on the mode of payment.

The soldier, Hamisi Kassim told the investigators that the accused who is the boda-boda rider Benson Avina Eredi who is commonly referred to as Bishop had on a fateful night left his two colleagues and never came back.
He told investigators that he heard Avina’s colleagues say he had attacked his customer who had opted to be paid on arrival at his house yet he wanted to be paid before reaching their destination.

Omollo, who was a Bachelor’s Degree student pursuing Information Technology is said to have boarded Avina’s motorcycle to ferry him home after a drinking spree.

Benson Avina Eredi who is said to have carried the deceased on his motorbike wanted to be paid in cash while Omollo wanted to pay after they arrived in his house at Kolomatangi Estate, Lurambi sub-county.

An altercation ensued where Avina is reported to have attacked the deceased during the 1 am incident leading to his untimely death.
He has since been charged with murder, a charge he denied before High Court Judge Jesse Njagi and was granted Sh500, 000 bond with a surety of similar amount awaiting the hearing on May 27.

A court has ordered a manager at an entertainment joint in Kakamega to supply DCI with CCTV footage as investigations into the murder of a university student is intensified.

“We believe the CCTV footage which covers both the inner and outer part of the club shall be of great help in our investigations. The boda-boda rider is the last person who was last seen with the deceased while he was alive thus we need the footage to ascertain if he was at the scene of the crime,” said Corporal Kamiti in his affidavit.
