Bobi Wine charged with disobedience offense

Kyadondo East Mp Robert Kyagulanyi aka Bobi Wine has this afternoon been charged with offenses related to demonstrations he held last year.

The MP who appeared before Buganda, Road Court following his arrest and detention at Nagalama police station, was charged with disobedience of statutory duty.

The prosecution alleged that on July 11th last year Bobi Wine conducted an illegal public meeting without notifying the police, which is against the public order Management Act.

In the said legal meetings, Bobi Wine went along with a number of activities which were protesting government proposed tax on social media services.

At the fully packed courthouse, where the Mp’s wife Barbie Itungo and family were present, Bobi Wine through his lawyers led by counsel Asuman Basairwa asked the court to hold the proceedings because of the absence of his sureties

Counsel Baisirwa told the court that all his client’s sureties had been “locked out of court by security”

In response the magistrate asked for the matter to be stood for about 45 minutes to have the court security relaxed.

The musician turned politician clashed with police after his Easter music shows in Kampala, Arua and Lira were canceled. 

Tension ensued after police blocked a procession led by Bobi Wine at his One Love Beach in Busabala, They also threw teargas canisters and dispersed his supporters.

Makindye West MP Allan Ssewanyana fainted and was carried by his supporters to a waiting car.

However, singer Nubian Li who was in the car with Bobi Wine was not arrested.
